Montgomery County
Preservation Coalition - Branding
The Montgomery County Preservation Coalition (MCPC) is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving historic architecture, landmarks, and cultural heritage in Montgomery County, Tennessee. They needed a professional brand identity that reflected their mission and connected with the local community.
My role was to design a logo, visual identity system, and supporting materials, including a Facebook cover image and business card, that conveyed a sense of history, trust, and longevity.
Research & Inspiration
The brand’s visual foundation came from the Dunlop Mansion, one of Montgomery County’s most prominent historic homes. Its architectural details. The stately columns, balanced symmetry, and classical design became the inspiration for the logo and color palette.
I studied the shapes, lines, and tones found in the mansion’s exterior and interior, pulling muted colors from its brickwork, aged wood, and soft cream finishes. These details helped form a visual identity rooted in authenticity and place.
Design Development
The logo centers on the silhouette of the Dunlop Mansion, a historic landmark that perfectly represents Montgomery County’s architectural legacy. Its balanced form, classical lines, and recognizable roofline made it an ideal focal point for the coalition’s identity.
I simplified the mansion’s silhouette to capture its most defining shapes, the strong roof peaks and columned porch, so it would stay clear and recognizable at any size. Paired with a timeless serif typeface, the logo conveys history and permanence without feeling overly ornate.
The color palette was drawn directly from the Dunlop Mansion itself: soft neutral tones inspired by its aged brick, natural wood, and cream-colored trim. Together, these choices create a brand that feels both historic and enduring.
Final Identity
The finished brand identity is cohesive, traditional, and rooted in place.
It feels authoritative enough for formal preservation work but warm enough to engage the public.
